Dentures are the tried-and-true solution for tooth loss with a long history of successfully rebuilding people’s smiles. Regardless of how many teeth went missing, your dentist can provide lifelike replacements so you look and feel like the best version of yourself.

Another reason so many patients choose dentures is that they tend to be less expensive than alternative treatments, like dental bridges or implants. However, you might hesitate to proceed with your fitting if you’re unsure what they cost. Continue reading to learn 3 factors that affect their price so you know what to expect!

Consideration #1: Dental Insurance

One of the first questions on many patients’ minds is whether their dental insurance will cover the cost of their new teeth. Most plans include 100% of preventive services, but only about 50% to 80% of treatments needed for repair, and you might not know whether replacement teeth are included.

Fortunately, most policies consider getting dentures to be a major procedure and cover at least a portion (often 50%) of the total invoice, though you’ll be responsible for paying the remaining balance. There may be other criteria you must meet before benefits kick in, though, like a mandatory waiting period or maximum coverage limits, so be sure to check your information.

Consideration #2: Their Materials

Your restoration is built to your specific needs and is customized at each stage of its design and creation to look as lifelike as possible and fit like a glove. That said, not all dentures are created equally. They can be made from various materials that can affect their overall price.

For instance, you can purchase a set made from lower-quality materials for anywhere from $300 to $500 per plate, though they might not last as long or look as natural as teeth made from higher-quality supplies. Mid-range pairs usually fall between $1,000 to $3,000 per plate, though you might spend $2,000 to $4,000+ for top-quality dentures that look more authentic than the other options.

Consideration #3: Additional Procedures

Before proceeding with this service, you must consult your provider to ensure you’re a good candidate. They’ll examine your mouth to ensure no pre-existing problems, like gum disease or tooth decay, interfere with your results. Then, they’ll treat any concerns they find so that your grin is as healthy as it is happy with your new teeth, though you’ll be responsible for the additional procedures.

Furthermore, you’ve lost most of your natural teeth and need a complete set of dentures, they may need to extract those that remain to make room for your restoration to fit correctly. This can also increase the amount owed.

If you’re uncertain how much your dentures will cost, the best way to get accurate information based on your unique circumstances is to ask your dentist directly!
